Step 1
Install Trust wallet or Klever wallet (for Android and iOS). Use Trust wallet if you’re interested in working with Binance Smart Chain coins (TruBadger.io, etc). Use Klever wallet if you’re looking to get involved in Tron (TRX) smart contracts. If you aren’t sure, start with Trust wallet. You can always install the other one later.
Why:
Supports multiple coins
Puts you in control of your private keys
Allows you to purchase coins with a debit or credit card ($50 minimum)
Allows you to swap coins within the wallets
Supports Binance (Trust on Android) or Tron (Klever) Dapps with built-in browser
Step 2
Create account at Coinbase.com, Binance.us and/or Crypto.com
Why:
All three allow you to link a bank account and transfer from the fiat world to the crypto world and from the crypto world back to the fiat world.
Coinbase has a debit card coming in the future to allow you to quickly transfer crypto assets to the debit card for use anywhere debit cards are accepted.
Coinbase is an ideal place for beginners to start, offers free crypto after watching videos. Fees are higher than other exchanges. With your Coinbase account, you’ll also have an account at https://pro.coinbase.com which offers more coins and lower fees.
Binance.us offers more coins, lower trading fees and can do true “trading” with limit orders. Bittrex.com offers even more coins than Binance.us. You may want to skip over Binance.us but it does offer the BNB coin that is in more demand as the Binance Smart Chain becomes more popular.
Step 3
Create account at KuCoin.com
Why:
Offers even more coins than Binance.us
Offers trading bots and staking
Can purchase coins with debit/credit card but unfortunately can’t link a bank account to this exchange.
Step 4
Install Exodus wallet on your computer (see www.Exodus.com) then download Exodus wallet for Android or iOS and link the app to the wallet you created on your computer.
Why:
Supports a large number of coins
You will be in control of your PRIVATE KEYS (this is the one of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of cryptocurrency).
Very convenient to have access to your coins on your computer and your phone.
Can swap coins within the wallet
The above will get you started in crypto with a few different places to store your coins and a few different methods to move funds from the fiat world to the world of crypto. Once you have a few bucks in the crypto world and are comfortable with moving and exchanging coins, you might want to look into a few ways to earn crypto with the crypto you already have.
Staking Coins
This is a process similar to a savings account where you leave your coins in a specific place (wallet, exchange, etc) and they pay a set rate of interest. Coinbase.com will allow you to stake Tezos and a few other coins. See Celsius (https://celsius.network/) to stake a variety of coins. Search YouTube for more information.
DeFi Exchanges
Look at Pancakeswap.finance and Autofarm.network on the Binance smart chain to put your funds to work in liquidity pools and yield farms. The Trust wallet app on Android and iOS make this very easy but you might want to use the Binance Chain Wallet Chrome browser plug-in on the desktop to better navigate and read these exchanges.
Keep in mind that the crypto world is like the wild west! There are a few places that offer customer support but it’s usually by email or maybe chat. Don’t exchange to be able to call an 800 number and have them you walk through the process or get your password reset. Write down your passwords, seed phrases, etc. When transferring crypto assets make sure you are sending to the correct address (double check the last 4 digits of the address). Make sure you are sending ETH to an ETH address. You can’t send ETH to a BTC address, if you try, you will lose your funds. Start with small amounts and work your way up.
